Discover Plas Glynllifon

A brief history

A remarkable Welsh country house with a story stretching back centuries.

The house today

Plas Glynllifon is a Grade I listed country house near Caernarfon. The present mansion was built between 1836 and 1848 to designs by architect Edward Haycock, after a fire destroyed an earlier house.

Its grand classical facade reflects the ambitions of the Wynn family and the Newborough estate during the nineteenth century.

Centuries of change

The Glynllifon estate has a much longer history than the present building. Earlier houses stood on this site, and generations of the Glynn and Wynn families shaped the surrounding landscape.

Today, the mansion is being brought back into use, adding another chapter to its history.
